Oleg Klymyuk is a Ukrainian dancer at the Semperoper Ballett in Dresden, Germany. He recently started his own line of handmade dancewear ‘WarmYX’. His increasingly popular ‘salopettes’ and leg warmers are not only great for dancers but are beginning to distinguish themselves as the newest sweatpants. Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to be comfortable and look good while you’re at it!

How did ‘WarmYX’ come to be?

It started when I made a salopette for myself and my girlfriend. Soon other people began showing interest and I decided to start a brand. Of course, every brand needs a name. In the beginning I thought of ‘Warmies’, inspired by the candy ‘Smarties’. I didn’t think it sounded that well however. I started playing with the unisex appeal of the brand and came up with the idea of chromosones (YX).

What differentiates your brand from other dance wear on the market?

I think what really sets “WarmYX” apart is the fact that you can customize your clothing item. There is a wide selection of different materials to choose from as well as almost any colour. You can pick up to 5 different colours and choose where you want to have the pockets. So you have your own personal salopettes or leg warmers; something that other saloppette brands, such as ‘Sancha’ or ‘Repetto’ don’t offer.

Is there a difference in designing for dancers and the general public? 

Designing for dancers is very different from designing for “normal people” (how we dancers call non-dancers). You have to make sure that the dancers can move in their clothes and most importantly, they have to be comfortable. I work on my own with an industrial sewing machine as only help. I can make three salopettes a day. They are all hand made so quality is guaranteed.

Did you have any experience with designing before you started with “WarmYX” ?

When I was 5 years old I tried fixing one of my mum’s old umbrellas with a strip of fabric. You won’t hear Karl Lagerfeld say that his first experience with designing was mending an umbrella! However, I had my first real experience making clothes when I was 16. My girlfriend at the time had an audition and I made her ballet costume. I had never taken any classes but I learned to sew by watching other costume-makers. That’s the best method to learn.

What is the one thing you never leave the house without? 

… Shoes and my glasses. Other wise I would be a blind mole. Oh, and a pair of pants. I would look silly without them. To order a WarmYX and to take a closer look before you buy it visit the website. Good bye sweatpants, hello WarmYX !

Hey everyone,

we know, it’s been a while. Tine and I are studying for our exams in January and Lara is in London, so at the moment we don’t have  the time for taking pictures and keeping the blog up to date. In January however, Lara will definitely make some great pictures with her  new camera and in February Tine and I will be back! But now… fingers crossed for everyone who’s studying!
